If you can't commit to full-time film studies, you can still take advantage of the state-of-the-art facilities and filmmaking experts at the Zaki Gordon Institute through inspirational workshops.

These weekend intensives are extremely reasonably priced for two day immersions!
Topics cover directing, editing, cinematography, sound design, producing, screenwriting and more.

Fall 09 WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

DFM104. Screenwriting: (2 credit hours).
Professional feature length screenwriting for narrative and
documentary films. Zaki Gordon Institute co-founder, Dan Gordon, writer of The Hurricane, Wyatt Earp, Passenger 57 and many other screenplays, play adaptations and novels, will take you first hand through his writing process. From concept to polished script, this dynamic, two-day workshop will cover what it takes to be a successful writer.

DFM106. Camera Coverage: (1 credit hour).
Director of Photography, Stephan Schultze, will demonstrate the aesthetics of lighting and camera setup for filmmaking. You will learn how to analyze story from a Director of Photography’s P.O.V., how to manage crew, the history of cinematography, the tools of lenses and cameras and how directors and cinematographers interface on a movie set.

DFM111. Documentary Interview Techniques: (1 credit hour).
Introduction to interviewing techniques. Professional use of
lights, sound and camera for interviews. Questioning to elicit a
useful response.
Nov 14-15 Ronald Tobias from Montana State University and director for the Discovery Channel, will be visiting Sedona to teach this master class joined by Ed George, National Geographic cinematographer.

DFM105. Directing Actors: (1 credit hour).
Gain valuble insight into the intricate world of directing actors. Learn how to cultivate an award-winning performance from this uniquely dynamic workshop.

DFM107. Editing Esthetics: (2 credit hours).
Feature film editing from analysis to final cut.
October 10-11

DFM206. Advanced Cinematography: (2 credit hours).
Single and multi camera lighting techniques. Emphasis on
selecting visual style for a script and visual storytelling.
December 5-6
